Our Church’s Wider Mission (OCWM)

We are a “5 for 5” congregation.

Being 5 for 5 reminds us that we are a church committed to keeping our covenant with the wider church — including our Iowa Conference and the national UCC denomination — by fully supporting Our Church’s Wider Mission with both Basic and Special Support.

Basic Support

Basic Support provides funding for the work of UCC Conferences and for the work of the UCC’s national ministries.

Special Support: Four Special Mission Offerings

Special Support includes gifts to the UCC’s four Special Mission Offerings that fund vital ministries bringing hope to people in the U.S. and around the world. In addition to our OCWM commitment to these missions, we provide opportunities for individual giving at various times during the church year.

One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS):

OGHS supports partners in more than 70 countries with ministries that fund development projects, feed the victims of famine, provide services for displaced people, and respond to natural disasters. Special Offering: fourth Sunday in Lent.

Strengthen The Church:

Strengthen the Church grows the United Church of Christ’s future by funding new church starts and invigorating existing congregations; nurturing lay and pastoral leadership; building youth and young adult ministries; and supporting the God is Stillspeaking Ministry and its extravagant welcome for all. Special Offering: Pentecost Sunday.

Neighbors in Need (NIN):

NIN supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, including ministry carried out by the Council for American Indian Ministries (CAIM) and by the national offices of Justice and Witness Ministries. Special Offering: First Sunday of October as part of World Communion Sunday.

Christmas Fund:

The Christmas Fund provides financial aid to retired and active ministers and their surviving spouses and children who face overwhelming financial demands. Special Offering: Sunday before Christmas.
