Who We Are...

Urbandale United Church of Christ is a caring and active Christian community whose members live in the Des Moines metro area and beyond. We are an Open and Affirming congregation that welcomes persons of every age, race, gender identity and expression, nationality, ability, and sexual orientation. We are a Just Peace church that seeks to empower ourselves, our children, and one another to be fully present in the world, living in Christ’s image and striving for justice and peace. We are a member of the United Church of Christ, a distinct and diverse community of Christians that come together as one church, joining faith and action. LEARN MORE.

Our Worship Space...

Our church building at the corner of 72nd Street and Oliver Smith Drive was begun in 1921 as a basement church for the rapidly growing community of Urbandale, Iowa. A new sanctuary was completed in 1922, and the Urbandale Community Church called its first pastor in 1923. In 1944 the church began its affiliation with the Congregational Church denomination, evolving into the United Church of Christ in 1958. An education wing was added in the 1950’s, serving initially as classroom space for public school students during the week. Our current sanctuary was dedicated in 1995, and ugrades to the office wing and fellowship hall were completed several years later. LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR HISTORY

Lenten Worship 2024

Join us in person or online for our Lenten worship services, beginning with our Ash Wednesday service at 6:30 PM, February 14. (Pancakes served starting at 5:30 PM). Maundy Thursday evening service on March 28, and Easter Sunday on March 31.

Violet is the traditional color for the season of Lent and symbolizes introspection and reorientation. This is a time of considering the fragility of life and paying attention to our spiritual quests connecting us to the Holy and the Eternal.
